Philippians 1:7-11
(Philippians 1:7-11)
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all,
because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the
defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. For
God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus
Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in
knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent;
that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled
with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and
praise of God.
In the letters written by the apostle Paul, he wrote,
"I, the apostle of God through Jesus Christ, and I am the apostle of
God...", revealed how he was given the apostleship, and then continued
with text and counsel. However, Philippians alone did not. This is because
Philippi Church has never had any negative or unbelief against the apostle
Paul. In Acts 16:14-15『And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of
Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she
attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized,
and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful
to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. 』 Through the meeting of a woman named Lydia, God made the family
evangelized and planted the church, thus creating the Philippi Church. The
Philippian church recognized the apostle Paul as the messenger of God and was
obedient and followed under his guidance.
The Philippi Church was founded by the apostle Paul under
the direction of God. When Paul left for Macedonia after serving as a pastor in
the church for some time, the church continued to be actively supported by
prayer and provided tremendous funding to go to Macedonia and establish a
church in the barren land. So, the relationship between the Philippi Church and
the Apostle Paul is that Paul was together or away, and always actively
participated and cooperated as a family. The Philippi Church believed in the
words of the apostle Paul, obeyed and practiced them, grew spiritually, and
became more mature and discerned what God was pleased with. Philippi Church
actively devoted all its heart, will, and devotion to everything.
This is the people who have the heart of Jesus. Every
believer in the Philippi Church received the Holy Spirit in every heart.
Philippians 1:6『Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good
work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 』 The Holy Spirit awakened, guided, and sustained them in the hearts
of the saints of Philippi Church. Even as it is meet for me to think this of
you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in
the defense and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
Paul was convinced that the faith of the Philippi Church was hopeful enough to
boast before God, and that the role of the church was a church full of the performance
God expected.
The Philippi Church continued to pray even when Paul was
imprisoned, and the Philippian Church helped with uninterrupted ministry of
witnessing the gospel to the world through missionary contributions delivered
through Eva Brodido. 『For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels
of Jesus Christ. This is because the Philippian church believed what was taught
and spared all of this time, prayer and material for the world mission that God
is most pleased with. All the devotion of the love that the Philippi Church
supports with prayer and material will be a fragrant offering before God, but
what the apostle Paul expects is that God's good will is to save souls in
thoughts, words, and actions. Paul said, "The Saints must discern what
this good will means, and continue to mature in that faith until the day of the
Second Coming of Jesus, sincerely and without fault."
The Philippian church receives the following praise from
Philippians 4:15-20.『Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel,
when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning
giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and
again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that
may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having
received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a
sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall
supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now unto
God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 』
