Philippians 4:8-9
(Philippians
4:8-9)
Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be
any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have
both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace
shall be with you.
The word “whatsoever things are true” means a true
state without hypocrisy, lies, and rudeness. In Romans 3:4, "God forbid:
yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou
mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art
judged. 』 Because everyone is a sinner. So, be born
again in Christ and become a true person.
『Whatsoever
things are honest』 The apostle Paul uses the expression
honest in 1 Timothy and Titus. This is a biblical term used only by the apostle
Paul. In 1 Timothy 3:8 and 11, he urged men and women deacons to live a
respectful, quiet, and respectful life, using this expression. The same
expression is used in Titus 2:2. While explaining why the saint should
faithfully pray, he emphasized, "That the aged men be sober, grave,
temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.." Honesty and modesty
means to deny and humble oneself in Christ
『 whatsoever things are just Only God is good. God is not to the left or to the right. God's scales
are always level. God's standards are always clear. God's love is always right
wherever it is. God's love is always the right love for all, forever. Those who
are born again in Christ realize the love of God and practice God's love.
Because it is to find the lost spirit.
Jesus' death
on the cross was a death of love that goes beyond the mockery of the robber on
the left. Jesus' death on the cross was to save the world. Therefore, Jesus'
right love was a love that could not be killed by the nails of the Roman
soldiers or by the spear through the side. Jesus' righteous love, righteous
mercy, righteous mercy, and its meekness and humility were eternal powers that
could not be trampled or destroyed by any force. Therefore, the right way of
Jesus and the power of truth and life are eternal. Therefore, it is the same
with those in Christ. It is not because human beings try, but only when they
are in Christ. Only when you deny yourself and are buried with Jesus Christ.
『Whatsoever
things are pure』 The word “clean” is “Hagnos”, which
means a state of holiness and blemish. It means the state of clean sacrifice
that can be used for sacrifices to God. In the Old Testament, a beast with a
flaw could not be sacrificed. Only clean and spotless beasts were offered.
Therefore, in order for the saints to be clean, they are clean only when they
are destroyed before God. There are many people who think, "You must
abandon dirty and ugly thoughts and live with clean and pure thoughts,"
but humans cannot live like that. Only we must be dead on the cross with Jesus
Christ.
The
expression “whatsoever things are lovely” is the only expression found here in the entire New Testament. The
apostle Paul was trying to describe the appearance of “a
joyful, pleasant and lovely life”. It is an act that
pleases God. In other words, it is a life to lower self.
『If
there be any virtue』 To be praised by God is to spread
the word of God. Saving true life is praised by God. Even though we are “believing, respecting, and living with a good reputation and devoted
to a good reputation”, it is fundamentally to present
my life as a holy living sacrifice to God. This will depend on each talent.
The word
"if there be any praise" is a virtue when the dead are revived,
become God's people, and expand the kingdom of God on earth through the work of
saving the lost spirit. 『Think on these things』means that people living in Christ should be an example for the next
generation. It's not about living a morally high and noble life and being
praised from generation to generation, it's about denying yourself, becoming a
little Jesus and seeing and learning through the sacrificial life.
